LEARN HOW TO AVOID THE MOST COMMONLY MADE MISTAKES WHEN APPLYING FOR AN ON ARRIVAL VIETNAM VISA
Don't waste valuable time on waiting at the airports. Say “No!” to having your flights delayed or canceled.

With over eight years of experience in the industry, we have compiled a list of the most commonly made mistakes so you don't end up repeating them, thus ensuring you get through the process as quickly and conveniently as possible.
These mistakes can leave you waiting at the airport for several hours, having your flights delayed or even canceled, and if worse comes to worst – you won't be able to enter the country.
If you're planning on visiting Vietnam, be sure to continue reading in order to familiarize yourself with these mistakes, so you don't end up repeating them.
1. Expecting to get the visa on arrival without previously applying online
This is actually a very easy mistake to make, given the fact that it arises from misunderstanding of the term “visa on arrival” itself.
A lot of people falsely believe that they can get the visa upon arriving at the Vietnam airport. However, this is not the case. You will not be permitted to get on board without a full visa stamped on your passport or a visa approval letter.
What this essentially means is that it’s absolutely necessary to apply online in order to get a visa approval letter in advance. Failing to do this will result in delaying flights while waiting for the visa at the airport, or even canceling your flights altogether.
Remembering to apply online for an approval letter beforehand is crucial, and saves you time that would be wasted on airports and money otherwise lost on purchasing additional flight tickets.
2. Expecting a visa on arrival at the Vietnamese border
Visa on arrival is exclusively applicable to air travel. This means that, when entering at the border (overland) or by crossing the sea (water entry), there is NO on arrival visa.
If you are not entering Vietnam by air, you will have to make sure to get the visa in advance at the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate.
3. Typos and spelling errors
You’d be surprised at the number of people that fail to put in the correct information when flling in the online application.
Wrong name order in the application won’t be an issue, as long as it contains your full name – your frst name, middle name and surname – as shown on your passport. Also, you need to make sure to put in the correct information in the passport number and date of birth felds.
Many people overlook the importance of correctly flling in the online application, but seeing as this information will appear on your visa approval letter, it is crucial that everything you enter online is 100% correct
A spelling error or a typo will cause you to be refused by the airline at the airport. Therefore, we suggest that you take your time while flling in the secure online application, and that you go over everything a couple of times when you’re done, in order to make sure that you’ve entered everything correctly
4. Arrival date and visa validity
Many applicants believe that their on arrival Visa becomes valid the day they enter Vietnam
This is actually not true.
The Visa becomes valid from the “date of arrival” you submitted when applying for your visa online, not from the day you enter the country.
This means that you can enter Vietnam anytime during your Visa validity, but not sooner than the date you specifed in your application.
The best tip we can give is to make a clear travel plan, so that you know when you’re going to enter the country before ordering your visa to Vietnam.
5. Visa extension
Many tourists believe that it would be fairly easy to extend their visa if they decide to spend a little more time in Vietnam than they originally intended.
However, this process is anything but easy. It could only be better described as costly and time-consuming.
However, this process is anything but easy. It could only be better described as costly and time-consuming.
Seeing as the visa extension policy can be changed at any given time, and without public notifcation, you’re likely to fnd yourself unable to extend your visa
Why take the risk? The safer, and less expensive option, is to simply apply for a 3-month visa instead of a 1-month visa
We hope the tips provided in this guide help you avoid these mistakes, so that you can get your Visa with as little trouble as possible.
