How to get Vietnam visa in Garland,United States

When you should apply?

Apply whenever you have a good plan for the trip. We do not advise you to apply months prior to the start of visit but don’t make a rush application at last minute. It’s ideal to start application 1 month before the travel.

Select appropriate visa type

There are different visa categories but we are going to focus on Vietnam tourist visa and Vietnam business visa in this post. Vietnam visa validity refers to authorized length of your stay in Vietnam, which means you are allowed to stay in the country since visa becomes effective until it expires. Both Vietnam tourist visa and Vietnam business visa are valid for up to one year. With long-term tourist visas, you are restricted to stay no longer than 90 days for each entry, but with long-term business visas, you are allowed to remain in the country as long as you want.

How to apply?

There are 3 ways for you to select:

1. Embassy or consulate

Advantages: 

• Good to use at airport, land port and sea port
• Avoid queues on arrival and pass straight through immigration

Disadvantages:

• Slow processing
• Costly

Since there is no embassy/consulate opened at Garland, the Vietnam visa application for US passport should be mailed to offices of embassy/consulate in Washington, Houston, San Francisco and New York. A typical application always includes:

• Original passport: valid for at least 1 month after date of exit from Vietnam. If you are traveling by air, make sure your passport has 6 months validity remaining to meet requirements of the airlines.
• Application form: available for download from website of embassy/consulate.
• 01 passport-sized photo: in color, full face, no hats, white background.
• Pre-addressed envelope: for return of passport and visa. Keep the tracking numbers of sending and return envelopes to track your envelopes.
• Visa fee: paid in form of money order, bank cheque or company check, payable to “the Embassy of Vietnam”. The visa fee starts from USD 75 for 1 month single tourist visa. Note: The fee is non-refundable and various among the embassies.

It takes 3-5 business days for application to be approved. If you wish to decrease the processing time to 1 day, then additional fee is needed.

Option2.  E-visa

Advantages: 

• Easy to apply online
• Low cost
• Good for using at airport, land port and sea port. Check list of ports allowing e-visa.

Disadvantages:

• The extension fee for e-visa is usually high
• Slow processing
• Short visa validity (30 days)

How it works?

Step 1. Upload your photo and complete application form online.

Step 2. Pay USD 25 non-refundable visa fee online. You will receive a code after payment to check visa result later.

Step 3. After 3 business days, you enter application code, registration email address and date of birth into search menu on the site to download visa letter. Do not expect it to be sent to your email.

Option 3. Visa on arrival

Advantages:

• Easy to apply online from anywhere
• Low price
• Short processing

Disadvantages:

• Only good for air entry
• Slow on-arrival process (use stamping assistance to get visa stamped instantly)

How it works:

Period 1: Obtain visa approval online

When processing is completed, a scanned copy of visa approval will be sent to your email along with an entry-exit form. You are supposed to print the letter and fill out the form, attach 01 passport-sized photo to the form and that’s done.

Period  2: Pick up visa stamp on arrival

Vietnam currently has 3 international airports including Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh. You can fly to any of these airports to get visa stamped. There is a Visa On Arrival Window at each airport, your duty is to approach it and submit the passport, visa approval, and entry-exit form. The immigration officer, after checking documents, will put a visa stamp on your passport and request you to pay stamping fee ($25 for single visa, $50 for multiple visa valid for less than 3 months, $95 for 6 months multiple visa and $135 for 1 year multiple visa). You give him money and get the passport back.
