The first question most Indian travelers ask is whether that visa-free rule has changed.
Is Vietnam visa-free for Indians?
No. As of October 2026, India is not among the 24 countries with a 45-day exemption, so an Indian passport needs a visa for Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and every land or sea crossing. A one-night stopover outside the airport needs one too.
Phu Quoc island is the only exception. Travelers who fly directly to Phu Quoc and stay on the island can visit for up to 30 days without a visa. The Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City notes in its May 2026 advisory that this does not permit entry to mainland Vietnam, and advises Indians to get a visa even for an island-only trip. Indian citizens can choose between an e-visa and a visa on arrival approval letter. The e-visa suits most trips, while Vietnam visa on arrival for Indians works only when you fly in.

Processing time and cut-offs in IST
A standard e-visa through us takes 5-7 working days, Monday to Friday in Vietnam. Faster speeds depend on the cut-off time in Vietnam, which is 1 hour 30 minutes ahead of India Standard Time. India has no daylight saving, so these times hold all year.

Visa requirements for Indian citizens: documents
The visa requirements for Indian citizens applying for an e-visa are short. You need:
- Passport: valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date, with at least one blank page.
- Passport scan: the full bio page, including the two lines of letters and numbers at the bottom, without glare.
- Photo: 4x6 cm, white background, no glasses.
- Trip details: your arrival date and the airport or border gate where you will enter.
You upload the scan and photo after paying. You do not need a bank statement, an air ticket or a hotel booking to apply for an e-visa through us.
How to apply from India
Getting a visa for Vietnam from India takes four steps, all online. There is no need to visit an embassy for a tourist or business trip.

Three situations come up again and again for Indian passport holders: a Phu Quoc-only holiday, the new pre-arrival declaration, and family trips.
Phu Quoc without a visa
An island-only trip to Phu Quoc can be visa-free, but we agree with the consulate: get an e-visa anyway if anything could take you to the mainland.

Pre-arrival information
Vietnam introduced a Pre-Arrival Information declaration on 1 June 2026. The Consulate General of India advises Indians entering through Phu Quoc International Airport to complete it before departure, with details that match the passport. See our guide to the pre-arrival form.
Traveling with family
Every family member needs their own e-visa, including babies, and children under 14 pay a government fee of $25 whatever the visa type. One e-visa order covers up to 5 people.
Keep each passport safe: the consulate notes that after a lost passport, Vietnam's exit permit normally takes 3 to 5 working days, and you must stay until it is issued.
