Foreigners must show driving license to rent motorbike

In rencent years, that foreign travellers in Vietnam rent motorbike to travel is coming popular and regarded as an attractive form of tourism.>

However, in complex conditions of Vietnamese traffic, this form of tourism is very risky.>

At present, there are more and more foreign travellers like to rent motorbike and explore the tourists destinations by themselves. With only a passport, the travellers could easily have a motorbike for themselves at motorbike rental shops.

Aside from this, there is not any conditions such as: driving license, health or ability to operate motor vehicle. And functional agencies only make report and punish the travellers when they violate traffic rules like running a red light, not wearing helmet or carrying persons in excess of the prescribed numbers...>

At the 9th annual consulate consultancy meetings between Vietnam and Russia in Matxcova on July 9th, the Russia proposed Vietnam not to allow Russian travellers to rent motorbike if they can not present regular driving license. If accidents occur, Russian insurance companies will not pay for those who do not have driving license.

Executing the Document No.394/TCDL-LH by Vienam National Administration of Tourism on management of motorbike rental service for foreign travellers, on August 30th, Khanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism had document that requests provincial tourism service businesses not provide foreign travellers with motorbike if they do not show regular driving license according to Vietnamese law.
