Vietnam visa extension for foreigners stranded by coronavirus

Due to public health measures to limit the spread of Covid-19, all international travel at this time is suspended. Thereby, many foreigners must extend their stay in Vietnam and wait patiently until the virus outbreak is curbed. Understanding the difficulties that the foreign visitors have to face, the Vietnam immigration department has created favorable conditions allowing foreigners to apply for Vietnam visa extension directly at one of immigration offices. If you are confused with extension procedures or wish to avoid close contact in public places, you can also have the travel agencies extend your visa; of course, for a small service fee.

You may have heard about Vietnam visa renewal and wondered what it is. Generally, visa renewal has the same function as visa extension, extending the time on your visa. If a person requests the visa extension, he will be granted a stamp of single entry stating the extended period. With visa renewal, he will receive a new visa STICKER that is good for multiple entries within the stay of extension.

How early can you extend your visa?

You should extend your visa 1 week of your visa expiring. If extending too early, the extended period will count from the date your application is approved. In order to have a full 1-month, 2-months or 3- month stay starting from the end date of the current visa, we advise you to start application no earlier than 10 days before the visa expires.

How many times can you extend your visa?

It is possible to have your visa extended several times. Due to the impact of coronavirus on travel for travelers, we believe that the government will accept your extension requests until the travel bans are removed.
