Visa for Vietnam for US citizens

Every US citizen needs a visa for Vietnam, regardless of whether you are traveling for leisure or business, for a day or a month. Fortunately, the Vietnam visa procedure is straightforward and quick, and you can easily get the visa in just a couple of days.

There are 2 options to obtain Vietnam visa from United States:

1. Through embassy/consulate of Vietnam (Get full visa before arrival)
2. Through local travel companies (Receive visa on arrival)

Option 1.

Vietnam currently remains 3 embassies and consulates in the U.S.A including: Washington, New York, and San Francisco. The requirements for application are the same but there is a slight change in visa fee. Here are papers you must prepare before presenting at consular office and request a visa for Vietnam for US passport:

• Application form:  available at website and office of embassy.
• Valid original passport: if you are afraid of loss or damage of passport when it’s delivered to embassy, it’s possible to provide a copy of passport. Accordingly, a loose-leaf visa will be granted.
• Prepaid return envelope: is needed if application is submitted by post
• 01 passport-sized photo: for loose-leaf visa, 01 additional photo is required.
• Visa  fees: are various from embassy to consulate. If you apply for the visa in person, please pay by cash. For postal application, the payment must be in form of money order, cashier’s check, or company check.

 It takes 5 business days for application to be approved. The express service is available for additional cost. You are requested not to make telephone inquiries on the status of application before 3^rd processing day for normal service and 1^st processing day for urgent service.

Option 2.

If you ‘d rather not to send off the passport but still wish to have a full visa stamp attached to it, please do the following:

Step 1: Visit http://www.vietnamvisa-easy.com/apply to fill out application form with passport details and expected date of arrival.

Step 2. Double check the form and submit it. Pay $30 visa fee online with credit/debit card

Note:  if you are interested to book a 1 year multiple business visa, you are not requested to complete any form. Instead, you have to send copy of passport and tentative date of travel to [email protected].  A payment link for $280 will be provided to you after that.

Processing time for tourist visa is 2 business days, for business visa is 5-7 business days excluding weekends and national holidays.  In urgent case, you can request rush Vietnam visa service to get the approval on the same day.

You can use approval to pick up visa stamp at all Vietnamese international airport no matter what port of entry in your application is.  When you reach “Visa On Arrival” counter at airport, the immigration officer will ask you to show the passport, approval letter, 01 passport photo, 01 entry-exit form and pay $135 stamping fee by CASH. Either VND or USD (highly recommended) is accepted.
