Danang and Hoi An won Urban Landscape Award 2013

Danang City and Hoi An in Quang Nam province have been elected for 2013 Asian Urban Landscape award. The awards ceremony will be held on the 26th of November 2013 in Fukuoka, Japan.

As being told, in September 2013, thanks to the support of UN-Habitat Vietnam and The Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center (Japan), Danang Institute for socio-economic development studies and Environment and Natural Resources Department of Danang submitted a dossier to participate the “2013 Asian Urban Landscape Award” competition.

The Asian Urban Landscape Award is established to honour the cities, regions, and projects which are regarded as the typical model for landscape architecture. The theme of the award 2013 is “City, the pride of citizens”.

There are 5 criteria for the winners including the harmonious combination between local and regional environment: assess harmonious connectivity with the ecological environment and humanity of the city. Safety, convenience and steadiness: assess the safety, security and strength of the city. Paying respect on regional culture and history: consider the combination of the city with landscape and specific lifestyle and the blending with traditional culture. High aestheticism: assess the creativeness and completion of the city. The contribution to local development, ability to become an example for other cities: assess the recognition of the locals about the city and role of the city to the local development.
