Explore Thanh Hoa province

Thanh Hoa is a northern tip of central Vietnam, situated 1,560 km from Ho Chi Minh City to the North and 150 km from Hanoi to the South. This is a large province ranking the 5th place in the area and the 3rd most crowded province in Vietnam. This is also one of the first habitations of the Vietnamese people. Thanh Hoa plays an important role in the Northern economic region. It is adjacent to Ninh Binh, Son La, Hoa Binh to the North and Nghe An to the South. The west borders Hua Phan Province of Laos and the East adjoins the East Sea.

Climate

Thanh Hoa has a tropical wet climate with four seasons. The summer in Thanh Hoa is very hot and the winter is often wet and cold. In the summer, Thanh Hoa often suffers from the Lao wind which is dry and hot and makes the region particularly fire-prone.

Tourism

Thanh Hoa has many potentials for tourism growth. Sam Son Beach is the most popular attraction that welcomed nearly 1.7 million arrivals in 2007. Trong Mai Rocks, Doc Cuoc Temple and Mount Co Tien are scenic spots in Sam Son.

Cam Luong Fish Spring is also well-worth visiting. The stream is the home to thousands of big fish with red mouth and fins, brown scales, and resembling carp. The residents never catch the fish because they are afraid that bad luck would come to them if they catch or kill the fish in the stream. It is very strange that water in the stream does not smell fishy at all. Adjacent the stream places an altar of the holy Snake God who is responsible for the fish.

Ben En National Park in Nhu Thanh Street, Nhu Xuan district is another notable attraction in Thanh Hoa. The park is really such a picturesque destination with dense tropical forests, green hills, spectacular mountains, blue rivers, clear springs, and especially beautiful Muc Lake. Thanks to stunning landscapes and diversity of flora and fauna, Ben En is a good place for eco-tourism, and scientific researches.

Besides, Thanh Hoa is well-known for historical relics, for example, Ham Rong Bridge, Citadel of the Ho Dynasty and Lam Kinh National Historical Relic. Lam Kinh is associated with the life and career of Le Loi, a national hero leading the Lam Son uprising in the 15th century. The National Historical Relic Certificate was given to the Lam Kinh attraction in 1962. The Lam Kinh Festival is an annual festival taking place on the 22nd day of the 8th lunar month to memorize and honour the King Le Thai To. Built-in 1397 by Ho Quy Ly, the Citadel of the Ho Dynasty is the only stone citadel remaining in Southeast Asia. It is the pride of not only Thanh Hoa people but also Vietnamese across the country. The citadel was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO in 2011.
