This Quy Nhon travel guide covers a relaxed beach city on the south-central coast, with clear bays at Ky Co and Eo Gio, Cham temple towers and far fewer crowds than Nha Trang or Da Nang. From our Vietnam travel blog, it lists things to do, how to get there, the best months and day trips to Phu Yen and Ly Son island.

Things to do in Quy Nhon
Things to do in Quy Nhon center on the coast: bays on the Phuong Mai peninsula, the long city beach and rocky headlands, plus Cham towers inland. Spend one day on the peninsula and one in and around the city.
Ky Co and Eo Gio
Ky Co beach is a crescent bay with turquoise water on the Phuong Mai peninsula, usually reached by boat or road from Nhon Ly village. Nearby Eo Gio is a windy cove with coastal paths and viewpoints. Neither has lifeguards, and rip currents occur, so swim only where locals do and when the sea is calm.
Cham towers
Quy Nhon has some of the best-preserved Cham temple towers in Vietnam. The Twin Towers (Thap Doi) stand right in the city, and the Banh It towers sit on a hill north of town with wide views over the countryside.
City beach and Ghenh Rang
The city beach runs for several kilometers with a seafront promenade, and is lively in the early morning and evening. Ghenh Rang, at the southern end, is a rocky headland with coves and a poet's memorial. Evenings are for seafood along the waterfront.
Getting to Quy Nhon
Phu Cat airport, about 30 km northwest of the city, has domestic flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and is on the list of airports that accept the Vietnam e-visa, as our page on e-visa airports shows.
North-south trains stop at Dieu Tri station, a short ride from the city. Since the July 2025 provincial merger, Quy Nhon belongs to Gia Lai province, though many maps still say Binh Dinh. It also fits a coastal road trip between Hoi An, covered in our Hoi An travel guide, and Nha Trang.
Best time to visit
March to August is the best time to visit Quy Nhon, with sunny weather and calm seas for boat trips to Ky Co. September to December brings heavy rain and storms on the central coast, when boats may not run.
January and February are mild but can be cloudy. Two longer trips start from Quy Nhon: south to Phu Yen and north to Ly Son island.
Quy Nhon travel guide to day trips
The coast around Quy Nhon has more to explore. Here are the two most popular extensions.
Phu Yen and Ganh Da Dia
Ganh Da Dia, south of Quy Nhon in former Phu Yen province, is a headland of hexagonal basalt columns formed by ancient lava flows. Combine it with quiet beaches and lagoons around Tuy Hoa on a day trip or overnight.
Ly Son island
Ly Son, a volcanic island off Quang Ngai to the north, is known for garlic fields, cliffs and clear water. Our Ly Son island guide explains the boats and where to stay.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Quy Nhon worth visiting?
Yes, Quy Nhon is worth visiting for clean beaches, seafood and Cham towers without the crowds of larger resort cities. It suits travelers who want a calm few days by the sea. Nightlife and international restaurants are limited compared with Da Nang or Nha Trang.
Is it safe to swim at Quy Nhon's beaches?
Swimming is generally fine on calm days at the city beach, but coves such as Ky Co and Eo Gio have no lifeguards and can have rip currents. Swim where others do, avoid rough seas from September to December, and keep children close.
How many days do you need in Quy Nhon?
Two or three days is enough: one for the Phuong Mai peninsula with Ky Co and Eo Gio, one for the city beach, Cham towers and Ghenh Rang, and an extra day for Ganh Da Dia in Phu Yen.
Do I need a visa to visit Quy Nhon?
Most visitors need a Vietnam visa or a visa exemption, checked at their first international airport. Read Do I need a visa for Vietnam? for your passport. An e-visa also works at Phu Cat airport.
